Can anyone provide me with information as to what I should use for Low Sodium Chicken Broth that is Gluten Free and MSG free other than making your own. I'm not a fan of making my own, although it is probably the healthiest, but are there any store bought brands you would recommend. I currently use Trader Joe's Low Sodium. I do use a lot of this item, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Pam

I used to use the Trader Joe's brand but then realized after reading the label that is has both MSG and sugar in it =( I make my own most of the time but when I don't have the time I use Saffron Road brand low sodium chicken broth. Not only is it easy to find but it is completely "clean" and tastes great! Here is the link to it    http://saffronroadfood.com/our-products/traditional-chicken-broth/

Hello Tanner!

Sorry to be a pain, however, I'm trying to do this little by little as I come across food items that I use pretty regularly to make the switch to clean eating as much as possible.

So here's my question. My husband and I love the Chicken Dogs from Trader Joes; Sweet Apple Chicken Sausage to be exact. It says on the package, "minimally processed, no artificial ingredients and no preservatives". The ingredients are as follows: skinless chicken meat, pure maple syrup, brown sugar, dried apples, lemon juice and spices. It also says on the package, Pork Free - Gluten Free and No Sausage Casing. What do you think of this product. We use it on whole wheat hot dog buns or diced up to make homemade pizza with whole wheat pizza crust. We DO NOT eat hot dogs, so this has been a healthier option for us and they are also a lot lower in sodium, 120 calories per chicken dog and 2g of saturated fat and 5 sugars. Do you know if this product is something we should be eating and if not, is there another product that you can recommend that would be even healthier?

Thanks again for your help! YOU ROCK!!

Hi Pam,

It's nice to hear that you are taking baby steps and changing things one at a time.  The TJ's sausages are not bad, but there are some better ones available if you can find them in your natural food market.

Applegate Farms has a line of natural sausages, hot dogs, and deli meats. The ingredients in their Chicken and Apple Sausage are similar to TJ's but the big difference is that they are made from organic ingredients.  They are also pork-free, gluten-free and dairy-free.  They have 140 calories per chicken sausage, 2 grams of saturated fat and 3 grams sugars.

The ingredients are: Organic Chicken, Organic Dried Apples, Sodium Lactate (From Beets). Contains Less Than 2% Of The Following: Sea Salt, Organic Apple Juice Concentrate, Organic Black Pepper, Organic Garlic.

Here's a link to their website to find out all the varieties of sausage and other products: http://www.applegate.com/products/dinner-sausage/category

Best,
Dee
