Dee,

I read that your body can't obsorb the nutrients you put in it unless all the toxins have been removed first from you history of unhealthy eating. Is this true? What whole body cleanse do you recommend to get rid of all the toxins? How long should you cleanse for? There are so many products and books out there it is hard to sort it out. Should we do a fasting cleanse like the master cleanse?

Thanks again,

Jennifer

It is not true that you won't absorb any nutrients at all if your body is not cleansed, however your ability to absorb nutrients is compromised by an unhealthy digestive system.   Cleansing is important, but people need to be careful about how they do it.  I always recommend eating cleansing types of foods such as cabbage, brussels sprouts, garlic, and lemon water.  Herbal formulas are also good to add to a cleansing type of diet.  Of course, refined and processed foods need to be eliminated completely.

Hi Dee,

The lemons at the store last night were all moldy.  I bought limes instead.  Will limes help cleanse the liver like lemons?  If I can't find fresh lemons, what is a suitable substitute?

Thanks!

Laney

If you can't find lemons, you can use limes.  However lemons have a stronger effect on the body than limes do.

In one ounce of juice, lemons have 14 mg of vitamin C and higher anti-inflammatory benefits than limes.  Vitamin C is beneficial for detoxifying as it helps the liver to produce a compound called glutathione, which is regenerative and helps the liver to process toxins and eliminate them.  Lemons are also highly alkalizing to the body.

Limes contain less vitamin C per ounce of juice, about 9.2 mg, and still have anti-inflammatory benefits, but not as much as lemons.  Limes are also alkalizing, although not as much as lemons.

The rind, or zest, of both lemons and limes contain the very poweful phytonutrient limonene. Limonene has been shown to increase the activity of proteins that help eliminate estradiol, a naturally occurring hormone that has been linked with breast cancer. Limonene has also been shown to increase the level of enzymes in the liver that can remove cancer-causing chemicals. Lemon rinds also contain higher concentrations of limonene than limes.

Great!  Thank you.

I guess I'll start adding zest to some of my foods now.

Dee,

Are you back from holiday yet?? Hehe. I miss you!

I have a question about taking vitamins while cleansing. Is it advisable to take GoL Vitamin Code while participating in GoL Perfect Cleanse®? I'm planning on starting the cleanse Monday after all the dairy in the house has been finished (just some non-fat yogurt)

Thanks!

Hi Agent of Change,

I'm still on holiday until a few days after Labor Day, but will now indulge in answering the many questions that come my way!  I have missed being here too, so it's nice to know I was missed!

I do believe that GOL vitamins are recommended during the Perfect Cleanse.  Btw, cleansing is a great way to kick start any health program.  Just remember that if you are toxic, you may feel some effects as your body starts to eliminate toxins.  Take it easy, gets lots of sleep, and drink lots of water.  Only mild exercise is recommended, such as walking and stretching.  Yoga is nice during a cleanse.  Don't try running any marathons or doing any endurance exercise or heavy weight lifting.

Let us know how it goes!

Best,
Dee

Dee, how about using Lemon essential oil instead of lemon juice.  Is it as affective in balancing the acidity in the body?
