I am allergic to the proteins in cow's milk and can't eat butter. My kids don't like coconut anything. Any suggestions for butter substitutes besides margarine. Earth balance organic has been my "go to" sub. I may not be willing to give this one up. Help

Shelley, What about Goat Butter? I have tried it before and loved it! I have read that SOME of the time people that are allergic to milk and milk products from cows have NO PROBLEM drinking goat milk and using goat milk products! This is there brand I have tried.....great companyhttp://meyenberg.com/products-page/butter/european-style-butter/

If the kids don't like coconut oil, it could be just that the one you are using has too much of the coconut flavor. There are different types--extra virgin has the scent and taste of coconuts, while the expeller pressed refined coconut oil do not and are more neutral in their taste. Your other option could be Ghee. Ghee is basically clarified butter--i.e. butter that has had all the milk solids and proteins separated away from the fats. Ghee is produced when butter is clarified, meaning all but trace amounts of lactose and casein are removed. The final product offers a rich buttery flavor, several vitamins, and a highly stable, cooking-friendly saturated fat. Though tiny amounts of lactose or casein can remain, they exist at a level low enough to not cause concern for those who are allergic or sensitive to dairy. I recommend getting a high quality ghee from grass-fed organic cows. Like butter, ghee should be sparingly consumed.
