Raw food with goitrogins such as sauerkraut are discourated for people with hypothryroidism.  Does anyone know if that includes fermented cabbage which I have heard doubles the amount of goitrogins when fermented.  That doesn't seem right to me.  My doctor says it doesn't matter what I eat.  It doesn't effect the thyroid.  Oh what to believe!

In a recent blog post from the Dr. Fuhrman website, he seemed to concur with your doctor; cruciferous vegetables do not harm the thyroid, as long as you are getting enough of iodine.  To me the jury is still out on that one too. 

Due to the probiotics involved, I've been playing with fermented foods.  When I get the spicy carrots recipe I'm working on perfected, will post. Yum.
