I prefer not to eat legumes - most of them don't agree with me anyway, and they aggravate my tendonitis.  I am mostly grain free - the only grains I eat are in Matrix Meal protein powder, which includes raw sprouted grains - and that's pretty much it.  Rice makes me dizzy - I'm assuming a sugar rush.  What can I fill in those spaces with?  Thanks!

I assume you are referring to the eating plan outlined in The Science of Skinny, which suggests a certain number of serving of whole grains and legumes/starchy vegetables each day.  If you are sensitive to legumes and grains, you can just choose starchy vegetables for both categories, such as sweet potatoes, spaghetti squash or other squashes, yams, rutabegas, etc.  If you are sensitive to starchy vegetables, you can just eat more non-starchy vegetables.  Also, instead of grains, you could try experimenting with things like flaxseed crackers, which make a great alternative to grain-based crackers.  You could also try making some grain-free bread out of almond meal or coconut flour (coconut flour is not a grain flour, it is made from defatted coconut meat). There's lots of recipes on the internet now for grain-free breads and baked goods.

The bottom line is that you don't have to stick exactly to the types of foods and portions outlined in the book if you are sensitive.  I did mention in the book that it is just a guideline and it can be altered to suit any lifestyle.  You can omit those foods entirely and just stick with protein foods, healthy fats, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds.  You can't go wrong with eating more veggies and a little more of the other types of foods in order to balance out your food intake.

Thanks Dee - I was thinking along those lines, but after doing so many different plans over the last few months I am somewhat overwhelmed and wanted to be sure not to take liberties that I shouldn't!
