Tis the season for apple cider! You can make your own a slow cooker with fresh organic apples and mulling spices like cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg. Serve hot or cold.
Makes 1 gallon
10 fresh organic apples
1 knob fresh ginger, peeled and lightly crushed with the side of a knife (like a garlic clove)
4 cinnamon sticks
Dash of ground nutmeg
Dash of ground cloves or 4 whole cloves
1 Gallon of water
Wash, core and slice apples,leave peels on.
Place in slow cooker.
Slice orange and lemons into 8 slices each and add to slow cooker.
Add the spices.
Add the water to the slow cooker and cook on low setting for about 8 hours. Pour through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth when done. Drink warm or refrigerate and serve cold.
Want to try something different? Freeze some chopped mint into your ice cubes and serve the cider cooled and iced with the mint cubes.
