I understand that BPA plastic, which is the hard clear type, has been condemned, and now the new BPS similar plastic, but Dee, what do you think of the kind used to make the Nalgene hiking water bottles?  It is a thick milky colored softer plastic.  I think I remember your recommendation of stainless steel, but I have bigger Nalgene than stainless bottles.  The Nalgenes have been popular for hiking for many years.

Also, Hungry Jack makes a pancake syrup in a plastic bottle labeled "microwaveable".  Do you accept that it is?  They've even put a thermo-sensitive sticker on the outside which tells how hot the product inside is.  What do you think of that?  I have some I've saved over the years.

Thanks,
Kathleen

Hey Kathleen -

Thank you for your question.

This is Dee's husband Michael stepping in to help.

We don't know the composition of the Nalgene hiking water bottles, but stainless steel, as you said, is really all we recommend for long term use. I'd recommend going to their website to see if they are BPA-free.

About the Hungry Jack pancake syrup, Dee only recommends 100% Pure Maple Syrup and we haven't used a microwave for years. If you want to know why, search on this forum "microwave" and you'll see Dee's past comments on the subject.

Michael,
Thank you for the response.

From your post, all plastics except those with BPA and BPS are safe in all respects?

And, I'm not asking about the syrup. I knew the position on that, the question is about the bottle which they tell you can be used to heat things in.  It is not BPA or BPS, but I'll check about the microwave references.

Thanks again,
Kathleen
