I have decided to participate more on the support forum.  I found Dee's plan a little over a year ago and am very thankful for the changes in my overall well-being and wellness as a result.  I was interested in "releasing" some weight, which I did and I brought my cholesterol down which was to me amazing because I thought my old way of eating was the best I could do with that.  I was concerned about Thanksgiving because I was not in charge of cooking while staying with relatives.  Fortunately they are supportive and did make accomodations for me that helped me a lot.  I was concerned that I would not be able to forgo standard prepared pumpkin pie and other desserts.  I did go prepared with Dee's organic pumpkin pie recipe and carried my own Rapadura in case I decided to make a pie. Plan-D is just so amazing.  I did not want the desserts.  I had a delicious bowl of mixed berries when dessert time came and was satisfied.  That is what I love most about the way I am eating. I honestly do not feel deprived.  I don't want the foods that I used to love, sugar and white flour baked goods.  I am learning every day how to make the choices I want to make.  Thank you Dee and all the others who choose to share their path on this journey.  By the way I am trying to find more ways to be sure I get enough coconut oil in daily.  I use it for all cooking and use coconut flakes in my yogurt.  How else do others add it in?  I only use a recipe calling for coconut milk a couple of times a month.

Here are some good ways to use coconut in your diet:


  • Sprinkle dried coconut over cereals, salads, or mix into yogurt
  • Grind fresh coconut in the food processor and mix it with ground turkey or ground beef
  • Add chopped dried coconut to baked goods 
  • Add coconut milk to soups
  • Dilute coconut milk and use it in place of milk or cream over cereals or fruit 
  • Use diluted coconut milk in smoothies and protein shakes instead of yogurt or milk
  • Use coconut oil in stir fries
  • Use coconut oil  for sautéing vegetables 
  • Use coconut oil to pop popcorn 
  • Use coconut oil instead of other oils in pancakes, muffins, and breads 
  • Use coconut oil instead of butter on toast, or mix it with the butter

For me, I use 1/2 cup coconut milk and 1/2 cup water to make smoothies.  I also add in 1 tablespoon of coconut oil into the smoothie.  I also add 1 tbsp coconut oil into my cooked oatmeal, I even add 1 tbsp coconut oil into my yogurt.  I know some people who add it into their coffee!

I am a newbie from Australia and am enjoying trying out Dee's recipes and  transitioning to Plan-D. Unfortunately many of the food items you mention are unobtainable here (including sprouted grain bread, cornmeal tortillas etc) and others are very expensive - in fact it has proven cheaper and easier to order some of them online (agave, sucanat, flavoured stevia) and get them posted out from the States.  I am very grateful for this forum and for the support that it offers.

I have a query re coconut flour, Dee as you have not mentioned it in your previous post as a way of adding coconut to the diet. Even though I have not seen any in the health food stores here, I had envisaged making some by blending up coconut in the Vita Mix, and have just ordered a cookbook that seems to use it quite a bit.  What are your thoughts on using coconut flour?

Hi Tina,

You are right, there are many places online that carry the products mentioned in the book.  One of my favorites, which is listed in the resources section of the book, is Tropical Traditions.  They have wonderful coconut oil and other coconut products, as well as other organic foods. Often they have sales with great discounts that you will find out about if you sign up for their emails.

As far as coconut flour is concerned, it is not a source of coconut oil for the diet, however it has many other benefits.Coconut flour is fiber from the coconut meat after most of the oil has been extracted to make Virgin Coconut Oil. It is certified organic, unsweetened, and has not been treated with sulfites. Coconut flour is high in dietary fiber and protein, and is gluten-free. It has more fiber than gluten-based grains. Coconut flour can be added to whole grain recipes to add extra fiber, by substituting 10-30% of the grain-based flour with our coconut flour. Some recipes, such as muffins and quick breads, can be made exclusively with organic coconut flour and therefore be 100% gluten-free. Since coconut flour contains natural sugar from the coconut meat, baked goods need less sweetener added. The coconut flour has a mildly sweet coconut taste.

Coconut flour also contains over 19% non-gluten protein, therefore, it makes an excellent addition to shakes and smoothies where fiber and protein are needed. Or simply dissolve a spoonful in water as a high-fiber drink with a coconut flavor.
